NPS Partial Withdrawal 2026: 25% Kab Nikal Sakte Hain? Medical, Home, Education Rules

NPS Retirement 22 October 2026

NPS ek long-term retirement savings vehicle hai — sirf 60 saal pe pura paisa milta hai. Lekin kuch specific situations mein age 60 se pehle partial withdrawal allowed hai. Maximum 25% of your own contributions (employer ka nahi, government ka nahi — sirf apna) — woh bhi specific conditions meet karne pe.

PFRDA ke 2018 circular ke baad partial withdrawal rules simplify hue hain — ab online process available hai eNPS portal par bina employer/nodal office ke intervention ke bhi (certain cases mein).

NPS Partial Withdrawal — 3 Core Rules: (1) Minimum 3 saal NPS mein hona chahiye | (2) Maximum 25% of own contributions (employee share only, employer/govt share excluded) | (3) Lifetime mein maximum 3 baar — har request ke beech minimum 5 saal (except critical illness)

25% Calculation — Kya Count Hoga, Kya Nahi?

Yeh bahut important hai — galat calculation se rejection ho sakta hai:

  • Count hota hai: Employee ki own contributions (salary se katne wala/voluntary contributions)
  • Count nahi hota: Employer contributions | Government contributions | Returns/appreciation on any contributions
  • Example: Aapne Rs 5 lakh khud contribute kiya, employer ne Rs 5 lakh, corpus ab Rs 15 lakh hai → Max partial withdrawal = 25% of Rs 5 lakh = Rs 1.25 lakh

Common Mistake: Bahut log total corpus ka 25% samajh lete hain. Sirf apna (employee's) contribution ka 25% milega — employer share aur returns excluded. eNPS portal automatically calculate karta hai — lekin pehle se estimate karo confusions avoid karne ke liye.

Critical Illness — Special Rules

Medical emergency mein zyada flexibility hai:

  • No minimum service period required
  • Covered diseases: Cancer, kidney failure, heart surgery, stroke, organ transplant, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, aur PFRDA-notified list
  • Family members covered: Spouse, children, parents, parents-in-law
  • 5-year gap rule bhi applicable nahi — baar baar critical illness par withdraw kar sakte hain (but 3 times lifetime limit)

Tax Treatment of Partial Withdrawal

NPS partial withdrawal completely tax-free hai — Section 10(12B) ke under. Yeh 25% withdrawal ke par Income Tax lagti nahi — chahe old regime ho ya new regime. Yeh EPF advance se different nahi hai is angle se — both are tax-free withdrawals from retirement corpus.

Partial Withdrawal ke Baad Contribution Continue Karna

Partial withdrawal karne ke baad NPS account active rehta hai. Contributions jari rakhni chahiye — sirf poori retirement corpus milega tab jab 60 saal complete ho. Partial withdrawal retirement corpus reduce karta hai permanent — contribution se wapas rebuild kar sakte hain time ke saath.

Early Exit (Before 60) — Full Withdrawal Ke Rules

Yeh partial withdrawal se alag hai — full premature exit ki condition:

  • Minimum 5 saal service ke baad early exit possible
  • Sirf 20% lump sum milega — 80% mandatory annuity purchase karna hoga
  • Corpus Rs 2.5 lakh se kam hai toh full withdrawal allowed
  • Agar NPS se resign ho toh 40% annuity rule applies (less restrictive than 80% early exit)
