"New tax regime mein koi deduction nahi milti" — yeh ek common misconception hai. Sach yeh hai ki zyada traditional deductions nahi milti, lekin kuch important exemptions aur deductions new regime mein bhi available hain. Budget 2024 ke baad new regime default ban gayi — toh isko samajhna aur bhi zaroori ho gaya.
New Tax Regime Kya Hai — Quick Recap
Budget 2020 mein introduce hui, Budget 2023 mein default bani, Budget 2024 mein iska standard deduction badha kar ₹75,000 kiya gaya. New regime = lower tax rates + fewer deductions. Old regime = higher rates + many deductions available.
Agar aapne Form 12B/12BB employer ko nahi diya ya ITR mein old regime choose nahi ki, toh aap automatically new regime mein ho.
New Regime Mein Allowed Deductions/Exemptions — Complete List
1. Standard Deduction — ₹75,000
Salaried employees aur pensioners ke liye Budget 2024 se ₹75,000 standard deduction available hai new regime mein (pehle ₹50,000 tha). Koi proof nahi chahiye — automatic milta hai gross salary se deduct.
2. Employer NPS Contribution — Section 80CCD(2)
Agar aapka employer aapki salary mein se NPS Tier 1 mein contribute karta hai, toh yeh deduction new regime mein bhi milti hai:
- Central government employees: basic salary ka 14%
- Private sector employees: basic salary ka 14% (Budget 2024 se new regime mein)
Yeh employee ke apne NPS contribution (80CCD(1B)) se alag hai — woh new regime mein NOT allowed.
3. Gratuity Exemption — Section 10(10)
Retirement ya resignation par received gratuity pe exemption new regime mein bhi milti hai — maximum ₹20 lakh (latest amended limit). Yeh aapke EPF withdrawal se alag hai.
4. Leave Encashment Exemption — Section 10(10AA)
Retirement par encashed leave par ₹25 lakh tak exemption new regime mein available hai (Budget 2023 ne ₹3 lakh se badhakar ₹25 lakh kiya tha).
5. Retrenchment/VRS Compensation
- Section 10(10B): Retrenchment compensation — ₹5 lakh ya 3 months average salary × completed years (whichever lower)
- Section 10(10C): VRS (Voluntary Retirement) amount — ₹5 lakh exemption
6. Professional Tax — New Regime Mein ALLOWED NAHI
Professional Tax (state-levied, usually ₹200/month, max ₹2,500/year) ka deduction sirf old regime mein milta hai — Section 16(iii) ke under. New regime (Section 115BAC) mein yeh deduction allowed nahi hai — Section 16 mein se sirf 16(ia) standard deduction (aur 16(iia) family pension deduction) hi allowed hain.

New vs Old Regime — Kaun Better Hai Salary Pe?
Rule of thumb: Agar aapki total old-regime deductions (80C + 80D + HRA + home loan + NPS etc.) ₹3.75 lakh se zyada hain, toh old regime better ho sakta hai. Kam deductions hain toh new regime mostly better hai kyunki lower slab rates hain.
