Agar aapki salary slip mein "ESIC" ya "ESI" deduction dikh raha hai — ya nahi dikh raha aur aap wonder kar rahe ho ki kyu — toh yeh guide aapke liye hai. ESIC (Employees' State Insurance Corporation) India ki ek health aur social security scheme hai jo salaried workers ko hospital treatment, sick pay, maternity benefits aur aur bahut kuch deti hai.

Lekin yeh sabke liye nahi hoti — wage limit aur establishment threshold ke basis par milti hai.

ESIC Kya Hai?

ESI Act 1948 ke under chalti hai. ESIC ek "Insured Person" (IP) ke roop mein registered employee ko provide karta hai:

Wage Limit — ₹21,000 Kyun?

ESI Act ke under, koi employee ESIC-coverable hoga agar uski gross wages ₹21,000 per month ya kam ho (as of current notification). Yeh limit 2017 mein ₹15,000 se badhakar ₹21,000 ki gayi thi.

"Wages" mein kya aata hai ESI ke liye: Basic + DA + HRA + special allowance + other monetary benefits. Washallow, travelling allowance, overtime (above regular), annual bonus — in mein se kuch exclude hote hain depending on specific provisions.

Disabled employees ke liye: ₹25,000 wage limit hai (higher protection).

Establishment Threshold

ESIC applicable hoti hai un establishments mein jahan 10 ya zyada employees hain — ab pan-India (Code on Social Security 2020 ke aane ke baad, 21 November 2025 se; pehle sirf notified areas mein thi).

Factories, shops, hotels, restaurants, roads, construction, education institutions, medical institutions — sab cover hote hain agar threshold meet hota ho.

Contribution Rates — Employee aur Employer

Current rates (as per ESI Act and latest notifications):

Note: Employees earning ≤₹176/day (≈₹5,400/month approximately, varies) ke liye employee contribution exempt hai — sirf employer contributes.

ESIC Contribution Periods

ESI mein do "contribution periods" hain:

Yeh important hai: CP mein minimum contributions ka record hona chahiye benefits claim ke liye. Sick leave benefit ke liye minimum 78 contribution days in first CP required hote hain.

Salary Increase Hoke ₹21,000 Se Zyada Ho Gayi — Kya ESIC Bandh?

Agar aapki salary mid-year ₹21,000 cross kar gayi:

Toh immediate-off nahi hota — contribution period cycle follow hoti hai.

ESIC Wage Ceiling Hike — ₹25,000 Proposal

Labour groups aur ESIC itself ne multiple times propose kiya hai ki wage ceiling ₹21,000 se badhakar ₹25,000 ki jaaye. Isse zyada workers (especially Tier-2/3 city employees whose salaries are in ₹21K–₹25K range) ESIC ke daayere mein aa jaayenge.

Status: As of October 2026, yeh proposal still pending hai government notification ke liye. Current official limit ₹21,000 hi hai — koi formal hike gazette notified nahi hui hai abhi tak.
