EPFO UAN Activate & KYC Update 2025 — Step by Step Guide
- Aadhaar (Digitally Approved) Must
- Bank Account (Verified) Must
- PAN Card Important
- Passport Optional
- Driving License Optional
UAN (Universal Account Number) is your single PF identity across all employers. Activating it and updating KYC is the first thing you should do when you join a new job. Without proper KYC, you can't check passbook, transfer, or withdraw PF.
What is UAN?
UAN is a 12-digit number assigned by EPFO to every employee. It remains the same throughout your career — even when you change jobs. Each employer creates a new Member ID under your UAN.
Benefits of UAN:
- Single login for all PF accounts
- Passbook view for all linked Member IDs
- Online claims, transfers without employer involvement
- Easy KYC management
Where to Find Your UAN?
- Salary slip (most companies print UAN on salary slip)
- Ask HR department
- EPFO portal → "Know Your UAN" using PF/member ID
Step-by-Step: UAN Activation
Go to UAN Portal
Visit unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in and click "Activate UAN" on the left side.
Enter UAN and Details
Enter your UAN, Member ID (from salary slip), date of birth, mobile number, and email ID.
Get Authorization PIN
Click "Get Authorization PIN" — OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number.
Enter OTP and Set Password
Enter OTP, set a strong password, confirm. Your UAN is now activated!
Login and Update Profile
Login with UAN + password. Go to Manage → Profile to update contact details.
Step-by-Step: KYC Update
After activating UAN, update your KYC. Go to Manage → KYC.
1. Link Aadhaar (Most Important)
KYC Page → Add Aadhaar
Select "Aadhaar" document type, enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number, click Save.
OTP Verification
OTP will be sent to Aadhaar-linked mobile. Enter OTP for e-KYC (Aadhaar electronic verification).
Wait for "Digitally Approved" Status
Status changes: Pending → Digitally Approved (usually within minutes to few hours via UIDAI).
2. Add Bank Account
Under KYC → Add Bank Account:
- Enter bank account number (savings account in your name)
- Enter IFSC code
- Upload a cancelled cheque or passbook front page (some cases)
- Employer needs to "approve" bank KYC — follow up with HR if pending
3. Add PAN
Under KYC → Add PAN:
- Enter PAN number
- It will be verified against Income Tax records
- Required to avoid 34% TDS on PF withdrawals
