EPF Balance Check Online 2025 — 4 Quick Methods
Your EPF account accumulates money every month — both from your salary and your employer's contribution. But do you know your current balance? Here are 4 quick ways to check.
Prerequisite for all methods: Your UAN (Universal Account Number) must be activated and your mobile number must be registered with EPFO.
Method 1: UAN Portal — Full Passbook
The most detailed method — shows full transaction history, employer deposits, interest credited, and withdrawals.
Go to EPFO UAN Portal
Visit unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in and click "Member Passbook"
Login with UAN and Password
Enter your 12-digit UAN and password. If first time, use "Activate UAN" option.
View Passbook
Select your Member ID from dropdown and click "View Passbook". Shows full balance and transaction history.
Method 2: UMANG App
UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) is the government's official app for accessing central government services including EPFO.
- Download UMANG app from Play Store or App Store
- Register/Login with your mobile number
- Search "EPFO" in the app
- Tap "Employee Centric Services"
- Tap "View Passbook"
- Enter UAN and authenticate with OTP
Method 3: Missed Call Service (Fastest)
Give a missed call to 011-22901406 from your UAN-registered mobile number.
Within seconds you'll receive an SMS with your EPF balance details.
| Requirement | Status Needed |
|---|---|
| UAN activation | Must be activated |
| Mobile registration | Must be registered with EPFO |
| KYC (Aadhaar/PAN/Bank) | At least one must be seeded |
| Call charges | Free (missed call — no charge) |
Method 4: SMS Service
Send an SMS from your UAN-registered number:
EPFOHO UAN ENG → Send to 7738299899
Replace "ENG" with your preferred language code:
- ENG — English
- HIN — Hindi
- MAR — Marathi
- GUJ — Gujarati
- PUN — Punjabi
- BEN — Bengali
- TEL — Telugu
- TAM — Tamil
- KAN — Kannada
- MAL — Malayalam
How to Activate UAN (If Not Done Yet)
If you've never logged into UAN portal, you need to activate it first:
Find Your UAN
UAN is on your salary slip, or ask your HR department. Also available on EPFO portal with Member ID.
Go to Activation Page
Visit unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in → Click "Activate UAN"
Enter Details
Enter UAN, Member ID, Aadhaar/PAN, Date of Birth, mobile number and captcha.
OTP Verification
OTP will come on registered mobile. Enter OTP and set password.
Why is My PF Balance Not Updated?
Common reasons your balance may appear outdated:
- Employer delayed deposit — Employers must deposit PF by 15th of every month. If they're late, balance won't update.
- EPFO processing delay — Passbook typically updates 1–2 months after deposit
- KYC not verified — If Aadhaar not seeded, some features don't work
- Multiple PF accounts — Check all Member IDs in your passbook (switch employer = new Member ID)
Check if Employer is Depositing PF on Time
You can verify employer deposits directly:
- Login to UAN portal
- Go to Member Passbook
- Select Member ID
- Check "Employer Share" column — every month should show a credit
If months are missing, your employer may not be depositing. You can file a complaint at epfigms.gov.in.
